Our owner Luke Baker graduated from The University of Manchester with a BSc (Hons) in Optometry in 2000; in 2001 he then qualified to become an Optometrist.
Luke went on to work for Dollond and Aitchison, Boots Opticians and Laser clinics before working for himself as a mobile optician and locum for the next couple of years. He then realised however that he wanted to run his own practice. He chose to buy City Eyewear in 2006 so that he could deliver a first class optometry service to his patients in his own individual way.
Luke says, “Patient satisfaction has always been my primary concern. Working on the road made me realise that there is a lack of emotion in a lot of optometry practices. I therefore surrounded myself with a team of friendly, compassionate individuals who are dedicated to making the patient journey a great one.
“I want my patients and their families to leave my practice feeling as though they have received the very best eye care available to them.”
It’s not only Luke’s patients that he’s interested in caring for. In 2012 he was an integral part of a team that went to Africa to provide the local inhabitants with vital medical care, including eye health checks. Prior to his trip Luke encouraged his patients to donate any old or unwanted glasses to his practice. He then took them to Africa to deliver life changing eyewear to those who needed it most.
